Kontakt Sofia

Works from the Kontakt Art Collection, Erste Foundation

The exhibition at the Sofia City Gallery presents a large part of the Kontakt Art Collection, which aims to bring together some of the most important artworks from Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and to draw parallels between the various conceptual art practices which have evolved since the 1960s. The varied practices of the artists represented by Kontakt demonstrate how questions that were tackled within the international art world were restated and reformulated according to the respective social conditions, despite an often repressive system. It is the aim of this exhibition to raise several of the questions which are essential to the reconsideration of artistic practices in a pan-European context and to call for new modes of artistic representation.
